Who we share your data with

We may share certain data with trusted third-party service providers that perform functions on our behalf, such as hosting, analytics, marketing, and customer support services. We carefully vet these providers and have strict contractual agreements in place governing how they can use data and requiring them to follow applicable privacy laws.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

At Nomad Academy, we take data privacy and security extremely seriously. We want to be fully transparent about how we handle and protect your personal information.

In certain countries or regions, we may need to comply with data localization laws that require data to be stored within that geographic territory. In those cases, we utilize in-country hosting options to properly localize data storage.

We do not directly share personal data with any other companies, subsidiaries or affiliates outside of Nomad Academy for marketing purposes. However, we may process and store some data centrally within our private cloud environment.

You have the right to request that your data be expunged from our servers. Just contact our privacy team on admin@nomadacademy.org, and we’ll expunge your data within 48 hours of receiving the request.

Rest assured, we employ industry best practices for safeguarding your information during any transfer or storage, including robust encryption, access controls, and auditing. Protecting your privacy is our top priority.

Your data may be stored in secured data centers and cloud servers that are vetted. We have implemented approved data transfer mechanisms and safeguards to protect data moving internationally as required under privacy regulations like GDPR.

What data breach procedures we have in place

At Nomad Academy, we hope we never have to deal with a data breach. However, we have detailed response plans ready in case an incident does occur. Here are the key procedures:

We maintain an internal incident response team that is trained to quickly investigate and mitigate any potential data breach situations. This cross-functional team includes members from our security, IT, legal and communications departments.

In the event of a confirmed breach, this team immediately initiates protocols to limit the exposure and securely retrieve or quarantine impacted data. Forensic analyses are conducted to determine the nature, source and scope of the incident.

We have cyber insurance coverages and partners ready to assist with comprehensive incident response, including working with law enforcement if the breach involves criminal actions like hacking or theft.

Our top priority is notifying any affected customers or employees about a breach involving their personal data as quickly as possible, in full compliance with data breach notification laws. This notification provides transparency about what information may have been accessed and steps they can take to help protect themselves.

For any major incidents, we initiate our crisis communications plan to ensure impact is accurately communicated through appropriate channels to customers, partners, regulators and the public. We believe in being fully accountable.

Post-breach, we conduct thorough reviews to audit our security defenses, identify any gaps, and enhance prevention and detection capabilities to help prevent future occurrences. Data privacy and security is an ongoing process.

We hope we never have to face a data breach. Nomad Academy has comprehensive response plans in place to react quickly and responsibility if one occurs. Protecting your trust is paramount.

What third parties we receive data from

At Nomad Academy, we may receive personal data from several different third-party sources as part of our operations and services. These include:

Integration Partners We have integration partnerships with certain software platforms and cloud services that share customer data with us when explicitly permitted. This allows us to provide more seamless and integrated experiences. Examples could include learning management systems, video conferencing tools, online payment processors, etc.

Lead Sources We may receive contact information and other lead data from trusted online marketing sources, events, sponsorships or co-marketing arrangements with other educational providers. This allows us to conduct outreach to prospective students interested in our course offerings.

Social Networks If you engage with us or sign into our platforms using your social media credentials, we may receive basic profile data from those social networks as part of the authentication process. This data remains protected based on the privacy policies of those networks.

Customer Data Platforms
We utilize customer data platforms and reverse IP lookup services that compile data from public records, website interactions and other sources. This enriched data helps us better understand our customer base and provide more personalized experiences.

Background Check Providers For certain higher-sensitivity training programs, we may use third-party background check services to screen and verify the identities of enrolled students against publicly available sources.

In all cases, we clearly disclose what data we receive from third parties and allow you to control how that supplemental data can be used for our services and communications. We contractually require these sources to follow all applicable data protection regulations as well.

What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data

Nomad Academy is a Christian platform targeting learners who are Christians and want to use media to evangelize. For this reason our profiling is based on Christian values, that uphold biblical principles. We enrol students who have a Church ministry background and have selected a mentor who would help them to answer spiritual questions as they go through the journey as Nomad Academy students.

Industry regulatory disclosure requirements

At Nomad Academy, we operate in a regulated industry with federal, state, and local laws governing how we collect, process, and share student data. We are committed to being fully transparent about our data practices to maintain your trust. Here are some key regulatory requirements we follow:

FERPA Compliance The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. We strictly abide by FERPA guidelines on receiving proper consent before disclosing any personally identifiable student data to third parties, except in allowable directory information cases.

State Education Privacy Laws Many states also have privacy laws governing how educational institutions must handle student data. We closely follow all applicable state regulations in each jurisdiction we operate in regarding data sharing, breach notification, marketing limitations, and more.

COPPA Compliance For any services involving children under 13, we strictly follow the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) rules. This includes getting verifiable parental consent before collecting any personal information from minors.

GDPR and International Privacy Laws When operating in the EU or processing data from European residents, we fully comply with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requirements around data handling, consent, individual rights, and cross-border transfers. We extend similar protections for other countries with comprehensive data protection laws.

Industry Best Practices Even beyond strict legal regulations, we follow widely accepted privacy and security best practices set forth by educational technology associations like the ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) and CoSN (Consortium for School Networking).

We are committed to earning and maintaining your trust by being responsible data stewards. Our compliance processes are regularly audited, and we quickly adapt to any newly emerging regulatory requirements that may apply to us.
