Effective Content Ideas
A group of media producers put together the following list of what they considered the most effective content to use for discipleship media.
Content Ideas that are Most Effective:
- Content that focuses on spiritual topics works better than discussing felt needs or problems. The goal is to move the focus away from more general, common issues and toward discussions of deeper spiritual issues. This helps target those who are seeking real, long-term solutions.
- Content that not only pushes the conversation towards Jesus, but pulls the viewer to Him is an effective and useful way to start meaningful discussions. People have questions about life, so allow the actual teachings of Jesus to show how they can improve on their current way of doing things.
- Content that connects spiritual and cultural perspectives and leads to deep questions is a very good strategy. This content should make people ask questions that start with “why.” Observe, ask questions, and then bring Christ into the discussion as the answer.
- Localized content is very valuable and effective. Try to make sure your content connects on a personal level, using examples from the community or culture of your audience that are easy to understand.
- Using content dubbed from other languages is okay, but be sure to balance the use of local and foreign content. Some foreign content will only confuse the audience and add unnecessary questions. Try to use locally produced material as much as possible.
- Using content from other languages that has local subtitles is a great way to save time. Many videos are available online, but make sure that any you use are subtitled before putting them on social media.
- Content that can be adapted for your audience legally is helpful, but you must have the written permission and technical ability to make the changes. This allows you to adapt the content to show the unique culture of your audience.
- More content about the Old Testament is greatly needed!
- Using content which contains shorter clips is very helpful to get attention. By pulling viewers in using shorter clips, your audience can be redirected to a website where a longer clip is available.
- Additional content which supports your main topic can be helpful. For example, one minute clips from longer videos can be used for advertising or to engage the audience for a longer discussion.
