High-Identity Conversion

उच्च-पहचान परिवर्तन: क्विंटन विक्टोरोविच ने यह अध्ययन किया कि इस्लामी चरमपंथी कैसे 1990 के दशक के अंत में गतिविधिवादी लोगों को जिहादी आंदोलन में शामिल करने में इतने सफल थे। उन्होंने यह प्रश्न उठाया कि किसी को किसी कारण के लिए अपनी पूरी पहचान बदलने का निर्णय लेने के लिए क्या आवश्यक होता है। उनके द्वारा पाया गया उत्तर एक मॉडल के निर्माण की ओर ले गया जो वे उच्च-पहचान परिवर्तन कहते हैं।

उच्च-पहचान परिवर्तन तब शुरू होता है जब किसी व्यक्ति की विश्वास प्रणाली को किसी घटना या जीवन-परिवर्तनकारी स्थिति से हिला दिया जाता है। वे घटनाओं के कारणों पर सवाल उठाने लगते हैं और यह समझने की कोशिश करते हैं कि इसका उनके भविष्य पर क्या अर्थ है।

At this point, Wiktorowicz says the person is open to consider explanations that come from a different belief system. They are willing to think about a new religion and how it will impact their life going forward. Wiktorowicz identified four stages which a person goes through while considering the conversion question.

1. संज्ञानात्मक खुलापन: व्यवधान व्यक्ति को नए धार्मिक प्रणाली में पाई जाने वाली विभिन्न विचारों और विश्व दृष्टिकोणों के लिए खुला छोड़ देता है। नतीजतन, वे बिना कोई कार्रवाई किए इस नए प्रणाली का अपने जीवन की स्थिति के लिए अर्थ सोचना आरम्भ कर देते हैं।
2. Religious Seeking – The person begins to actively seek meaning and understanding from the new religious system, and will search for more information to answer their questions.
3. फ्रेम संरेखण: नयी धार्मिक प्रणाली उस व्यक्ति के लिए समझने योग्य होना आरम्भ हो जाता है जो समझ की तलाश कर रहा है। वे देखना आरम्भ कर देते हैं कि नयी प्रणाली उनके अपने विश्वासों के साथ कैसे फिट या संरेखित होता है।
4. Socialization – The seeker accepts teaching, experiences, values and identity shaping from the new religious system.

The socialization stage is the goal. But the journey getting there requires both religious seeking and identity alignment before the seeker will agree to join the new religion.

As a strategy, our efforts to convert someone must understand how to focus our media efforts so that we meet the needs of the seeker. Finding where seekers are on this journey is discussed further in Topic 1:2-1 Persona.
